"Good pull through site with adequate space for our trailer and truck. Not much in the way of shade and a bit dusty, but what can you expect when you are this far south. Was happy to find a spot to stay. Good boating. Biggest issue was the showers are a long way away. Had to drive to them."
"Falcon State Park just minutes from Mexico. On Falcon Lake, next to Falcon Dam. Great fishing, trails, and sight seeing. Equipped with the means to stay overnight in a tent or RV or maybe just a day pass for family fun."
"Falcon is a great place for rv camping, birding, and though the lake is low...people seem to be fishing. The roads are free of pot-holes and pavement damage that many campgrounds are riddled with. The hookups are clean and in good repair, sites level. Trails for hiking are not extensive, a 2-3 mile loop with a few side trails. You can cover them in a few hours, but the bird feeding stations, blinds, butterfly garden make each hike quite different in the wildlife you might see. Great area for older kids/teens who might enjoy exploring something bigger than a playground, but not such a big place they could get truly lost. Restrooms were clean with hot water, leashed-dog friendly. The picnic areas for day use are very nice, many have water. It is obvious they are not right on the lake anymore due to falling water levels, but still very scenic. There is not a playground to my knowledge, but the rec center has a library of sorts with books to loan and reference materials on the local flora and fauna. I believe they have coffee and pastries on occasion. Park personnel are friendly and informative. All my time at Texas state parks has been great."
"Stayed here a week. The facilities were nice and clean and the park itself was very nicely kept and very quiet. The shower/bathroom was clean and had good water pressure. I'm more into hiking and this park being on a lake is obviously geared towards boaters and fisherman, but I still enjoyed my stay here. (Might be a 5 star for those folks.)There is a loop trail around the park that's pleasant to walk, just carry a stick in front of you so you don't keep catching webs in your face. Javelina roam the park throughout the day, and there's a nice variety of birds to see. The sunsets have been spectacular! The lake is still way down even with all the rain this spring, and will probably take years to recover, but I'm told it's much better than it was just a year ago. The closest town is Roma, about 20-25 minutes away where you can get anything you might have forgotten or need, plus has all the standard fast food restaurants and a fairly well stocked grocery store for as small as the town is. All and all it was a nice stay. I don't know if I would make a trip expressly to come back, but if you're passing through it's a nice off the beaten path place to camp. EDIT: Bumping my review to 5 stars. My biggest complaint about the trails is that none of them followed the lake. It was always off in the distance, probably because it is so low. My last day I visited the day use area. Because the drought has gone on so long, there are well-worn trails leading down to the shore line beyond the picnic concourses which have paths through trees and grasses full of wildlife and great views of the lake. You might not see much of the lake on the designated trails, but I really enjoyed this overgrown shore area. Really wish I had explored more earlier."
"We made a last minute decision to go camping during spring break, we were thankful Falcon State Park had an opening. We had a great time here. We spent a nice time down at the water enjoying the weather and sun. The restrooms and showers were also clean. Thanks for an enjoyable place to come camp. The sunrises and sunsets were great as well being able to see the stars and wildlife. I just wish I had pictures of the 5 javelins we saw running through the bushes."
