About the Business

McIvor Conservation Center

McIvor Conservation Center is a travel agency located in Fort Davis, Texas, United States. Due to current health and safety guidelines, the Davis Mountains Preserve, where the center is located, is closed to the public. The preserve, established by The Nature Conservancy, covers nearly 33,000 acres and is home to diverse plant and animal species unique to the region. The preserve offers opportunities for camping, hiking, biking, equestrian activities, picnics, photography, birding, and more on select weekends throughout the year. Visitors can explore the Madera Canyon Trail, open year-round, to experience the stunning landscapes of the Davis Mountains. The preserve is also part of the Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve, ensuring dark skies for astronomical research and promoting biodiversity. The center works with volunteers, government agencies, universities, and local landowners to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Davis Mountains. Reservations are required for guided day tours of the preserve, and information about visiting can be found on their website. Explore the rugged yet fragile beauty of the Davis Mountains at McIvor Conservation Center.

"Please remember to check in here. Bathrooms are also available here along with maps. Great hike, very steep grades, and loose rock at Baldy Peak. Recommend take the Limpia chute as it's not as steep. Be extra careful if older the loose rocks are bad. The peak is very steep and tough. We thought this was tougher than Emory Peak."

"Located near the entrance to The Nature Conservancy Davis Mountains Preserve, this is the mandatory check in-out station for visitors. Restrooms, exhibits, maps, road/trail/weather conditions. Advice from naturalists. Only open to public on a limited schedule - see DMP website. No fees but donations appreciated."
