"The food wasn't the best to be honest. The mashed potatoes were very sour. The sweet potatoes were good. The chicken was ok but needed a bit more seasoning. The corn bread was horrible. Not sure how you mess up corn bread. The inside of the restaurant is nice. Long story short, I won't be back."

"I was looking forward to treating my husband to some local soul food. We specifically looked for black owned business, to ensure it tasted like his home in New Orleans. He loved his food. The fried catfish was on point! However, my food was absolutely disappointing. I got the baked chicken, greens, mashed potatoes and corn bread. Everything tasted old like it had been sitting under a hot lamp for a while. Everything was barely warm. The chicken was beyond dry! I had a thigh and 2 drumsticks. I barely made it through the thigh. The mashed potatoes and white gravy had flavor but tasted old. The gravy was not creamy, almost solid on top. The greens had amazing flavor but once again barely warm. It was the same for the cornbread. Not warm and tasted ok. The staff and waitress were very friendly. However, no discount on the horrible meal. I probably ate $2 worth on that plate. It was very cold in there but the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The food did come out fast. But personally I don't think I would return. The baked chicken was that bad and nothing tasted fresh out the oven."

"Disappointing Experience at Casserole Soul Cafe, Cedar Hill, TX I was initially thrilled to discover Casserole Soul Cafe, a local, black-owned restaurant in Cedar Hill, TX, as I’m new to the area and was craving quality soul food. Over three weeks, I became a frequent customer, spending almost $300. Unfortunately, my experiences have been increasingly disappointing. During one visit, a side dish was forgotten from my order. When I called to address the issue, the response from the staff was unexpectedly rude, although they did invite me back to rectify the mistake, emphasizing their desire for long-term clients. I appreciated this gesture and continued to patronize the cafe. However, a subsequent visit severely impacted my view of the restaurant. The food provided was notably old, and when I called to express my concerns, the staff promised to replace the meal. Upon returning to claim the replacement and order anew, the situation escalated. The owner accused us of attempting to get more food than entitled, an accusation both unfair and untrue. Moreover, the replacement food was also of poor quality. These experiences, particularly the unwarranted accusations and consistent quality issues, have left me deeply disappointed. I wanted to love this establishment and support a local, black-owned business, but I feel compelled to share my experience to prevent others from similar disappointments. I hope this feedback is received as an opportunity for Casserole Soul Cafe to improve its customer service and food quality, as the community truly needs and desires strong, reputable local businesses."

"Awful Service staff nice and place nice and quaint! Food unpalatable!!! Staff nice and sweet. Place quant and cute. Food I am so upset at myself for compulsively adding additional items. Wasteful and disappointed that I spent as much as I did to throw it all away. I was invited by some friends and when I looked up the reviews I sent a copy of one of the pictures in the reviews and then is when I should have followed my first mind and declined the invite. However, wanted to find a new soul food place and support so I went along for the experience. Awful. My list of our purchases and not one eatable option. Oxtails greasy no gravy, Neck-bones dry as if they were cooked in an airfryer no a drip of gravy or juices from simmering, Catfish no seasoning , Baked Chicken as big as the palm of my head which they referred to as a quarter this ahad to be a baby chick!! greens awful mac & cheese can’t even describe it’s taste but spoiled taste, cabbage bland, black eyed peas taste like out the can, chicken tetrazzini (the worst in life) SPOILED CHEESE OR THE MILK OR SOME INGREDIENT that gave the taste of spoiled cheese and milk, enchilada casserole like elementary school lunch, broccoli & cheese casserole no taste , dressing another unexplainable taste like the gizzards were bad or something added that gave it a foul taste, cornbread burnt & dry, pound cake and peach cobbler didn’t get a fair chance because the food was so nasty the one friend that did taste it was to get the other food tastes out of their mouthes and they went in the trash as well. I ATTEMPTED to call the restaurant prior to my review with hopes of a refund and an explanation maybe they were unaware BUT the number listed gives zero information only an option to get a text with directions. This was purchased to come home and share amongst us all. Collectively 4 people was utterly disgusted with the food and its quality. The pictures should speak volumes."
