"Let me start my saying I have very tightly coiled 4C hair. I went in to get a virgin relaxer. My hair required a great deal of detangling. The stylist seemed patient. However, when it came time to apply the relaxer, she asked if I had brought one with me. I thought this was an odd question. I told her that I did not. She went to the back to get the product which apparently had to be mixed. I never saw the original container, as she returned with product in a bowl. I have had many relaxers over the years. Something seemed off about the texture of the product. It seemed pasty, as opposed to smooth. Even after the time allotted for my hair to break down, there was hardly any "slippage". 'When she rinsed the product out, she commented that the relaxer didn't seem to straighten. It only loosened my curls some. She proceeded to blow dry my hair and use another heat straightening device. This effort seemed to only give the allusion of straight hair. I paid and tipped but she claimed she was not able to provide a receipt. About a week later, I shampooed my hair. I discovered my hair was still very much coiled and NOT relaxed. I am convinced the product used was NOT a relaxer or it was not mixed correctly. I've since relaxer my hair and it straightened very easily. The stylist suggested I return for a corrective relaxer, but I don't trust either the quality of the product or the competence of the stylist. Also note this isn't the cleanest or best maintained establishment."

"I saw Ms.Sussie while she was training at the Schillinger location. She did an excellent job on my hair. I’d also like to note that I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted but after the results I understood quite well the fact that she understood what I wanted. She is a great colorist and I do recommend!!"

"The lady on duty, Prisca was very rude and acted like she didn’t want to cut my children’s hair. The store closes at 7 and we arrived at 6:30. She said only one person in the store at a time but allowed two other people in there and not my husband. My son had to get a haircut without parents there. Very unprofessional and was charged for a haircut and shampoo, but only got a horrible haircut. My sons bangs are noticeably crooked. Then she didn’t cut my other sons hair and began cutting another mans. I’m appalled at the level of unprofessional service that this store gave. I understand everyone has bad days and are entitled to make mistakes but rudeness is not a mistake it’s a choice especially when she was given no reason to be rude."

"I took my son in Saturday to get his hair cut. My husband takes my son, so I couldn't tell the stylist (Retha) what numbers to use for the clippers. She was nice but while cutting his hair, she kept tending to the desk. Answering the phone and checking people out. At one time, a customer apologized for her having to stop but she said," oh it's okay, he's being really good." She complimented a few times how well he was doing and how "comfortable" he felt with her. When I got home, my husband was furious. He pointed out how no lines were straight and only one of his sideburns were completely gone. So the next day he went back to the store and asked for his money back. He was told the manager wasn't in and had to come back. So he did the next day and spoke to the manager (Retha) the same woman who cut his hair about a refund. She said she couldn't do that and that it was my sons fault because he was squirming. He got nervous once at the VERY end and my daughter handed him her phone and he was okay. This was not his first haircut and his hair never looked this bad from his other stylist. She gave my husband a number for us to call about a refund. This company then told us to wait to hear from a district manager, if we don't hear from her, call back within 48 hours. This process seems very irritating and I would not recommend this company and especially the Semmes location. If you make a mistake, own up to it. Apologize, don't blame a child. And just give the money back instead of having the customer jump through hoops."

"Smart Styles is a very clean and decent hair cutting salon the employees that work there or very sweet. They do a very good job on haircuts perms and etcetera. The manager there is a very sweet woman love her to death. You might pay a little more for a haircut but I promise you you will enjoy it."
