About the Business

Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area

Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area, located at 8310 East 300 North in Mongo, Indiana, is a campground, lodging, and park that offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Spanning over 11,794 acres of land, including 529 acres of lakes and impoundments and 17 miles of free-flowing river, the area boasts a diverse mix of habitats such as hardwoods, wetlands, and upland fields. It is also home to many endangered species of plants and animals.

Established in 1956, Pigeon River FWA was created when three reservoirs in the Pigeon River Valley were given to the state. Since then, additional land along the river valley has been acquired. The property is funded by revenues from hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses, as well as federal programs aimed at fish and wildlife restoration.

Popular activities at Pigeon River FWA include hunting, fishing, and bird watching. Visitors can also volunteer for activities such as trash pick-up, invasive plant removal, and painting. Pit toilets are available on the south side of the main office parking lot. The property is always open, but some activities may have limited hours during certain times of the year. For more information, visitors can contact the property office or email PigeonRiverFWA@dnr.IN.gov.
