The sanctuary features a diverse range of plant species and is a great spot for birdwatching in the spring. Wetlands on the property are home to ducks, herons, turtles, frogs, beavers, muskrats, and more. The upland areas harbor foxes, coyotes, rabbits, and groundhogs, while various bird species nest in the trees above.
Hidden Marsh Sanctuary has a rich history dating back to the 1820s, when it was first recorded in the Lockport Township plat book. The property has seen various uses over the years, including a flour mill and a successful strawberry farm. In 1998, the property was generously donated to the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy, which now oversees its preservation.
