"This was my first time eating here and I chose the lunch time rush. There was only a short line and when I got to the counter the staff were welcoming and took time to answer my questions. I was a little concerned that we would not find a table, but another staff member directed us to a table that had become available. The food was brought out and I instantly knew why this place was so popular. The hamburger steak was cooked just right with the right amount of seasoning smothered with onions and brown gravy. The collard greens were fresh and the fried green tomatoes were crispy. Loved the area surrounding this location and am eager to return again for another visit. I highly recommend this place to everyone."

"Easily one of the best places to eat in Birmingham, great ratings for a reason, you can tell by the lines, but they move quick. Truly the roast and the meatloaf first and if there's a bunch of you get others to share the other options... Sweet Potato mash and the rolls are just easy sides but man this was a whole some meal, properly seasoned and the chef is pretty friendly, lots of stories but he will check in on you if he can. Loved it."

"GO EAT HERE! We were visiting Birmingham and saw that Johnny’s had great ratings, so we checked it out. The line to order was a little long, but even though it was out the door, it moved quickly. Got the meat and three option, which I think was $14.99. Everything was so good!! You get the choice of cornbread or yeast roll—get the roll. Their sweet tea is delicious too. Everything we had was so good. Highly recommend visiting here—just make sure you come hungry!!"

"Even with the long line, the staff was amazingly helpful and patient with us as we made our selections. Everything was good. We do not prefer white meat, but the Greek Chicken had a good flavor. The Meatloaf was definitely the star!"

"Great local comfort food joint with food that lives up to all its many nominations and awards. Was busy on Sunday at noon, but not a long a line and had no trouble finding a table. Staff was friendly and didn't mind answering questions. Ordered meatloaf w/ macaroni, grit cake, & creole red beans; hamburger steak w/ macaroni & sweet potatoes; and the chocolate peanut butter torte. It was all fantastic, with the macaroni, red beans, and torte being particular standouts. Menu does change, especially with what deserts are available, so don't rely too much on the pictures here."
