Beam Roast Coffee

"What a lovely little spot! I mapped myself over to grab a drink for the road a couple of weeks ago. This coffee shop seems pretty out-of-the-way (to me at least -- but I'm not a local so maybe I'm missing something), to the point where I thought maybe my GPS was wrong. But it wasn't, so if you check this place out, have faith in Google maps! Lol. The signage is a little small but I promise it's there! It's near Austin High School and behind a small gas station/mini-mart. There's a spacious parking lot out front and a small patio for nicer days than the day I visited. It was super quiet and cozy inside, and it smelled great! I saw one person working on his laptop, and I'd definitely agree that this is a great place to hunker down and focus. It's mostly a table and chair setup but there's a couch too, iirc. Service was a highlight -- the barista was super kind and bubbly and eager to help with all my questions. She listened to what I liked and provided several excellent recommendations. I can't remember the exact name of the drink I got because I delayed too long between visiting and writing this review, but it was a specialty mocha of some sort, either the Smithy Special or the Beam Bonfire. I'd guess the Smithy Station as I'm not usually super into marshmallow stuff. Whatever I had, it was sweet, smooth, creamy, beautiful, and an appropriate size for the fairly low price. I'd get it again! They have small, typical coffeeshop snacks (think pastries, etc) and change up specials depending on the time of year. I'm in Decatur somewhat often for work, especially during the winter months, and this may be one of my new preferred coffee shops. Thanks for a nice first visit!"

"I’m a bit of a coffee connoisseur, so when I travel, I go out of my way to find the best coffee I can. This place did not disappoint. I bought a bag of their Ethiopian, put some in a burr grinder, and used a french press. Excellent. I’m from a part of south Florida where you can’t throw a stone without hitting 3-4 local coffee shops, have traveled extensively over seas, trying some of the best coffee there is. This new little roastery in Alabama truly holds its own. What a pleasant surprise, Beam Roast is a gem in Decatur."
