"If you like to experience a location where you can see, touch and feel "life two hundred years ago", then visit this place. This place is more than native people or federal Gov treaties. You see touch and feel life two centuries ago. With their permition, i took pictures of two employees dressed to present their life in that era. Very nice facility with rare exhibits. My favorite is a two hundred years old tree trunk canoe. See uploaded pictures. The museum is worth a visit !!"
"Found it by following signs, a couple years ago, but looked like too much walking for my wife, so drove away. Just me, yesterday, so free to explore this restoration of the largest frontier trading post in the early 1800's. The visitor center has a 5min introductory video, small gift shop, & restrooms on main floor (wheelchair accessible), with an elevator to their museum below. $8/adult & $4 for seniors & kids, then out the back to walk to the fort & trading post. There are modern restrooms out there, with an exterior which matches the rest of the 200 year old fort. There are docents to answer questions, & probably guard the items on display in the trading post, etc. That building appears as a 2-story, but there are 2 more floors built down into the bluff, which the original occupants used as a tanning (fur/skin removal) shop & more "temperature controlled" storage. The Fort has barracks, blacksmith shop, lookout posts, & officer's quarters. No elevators or ramps to anything off ground level."
"Wonderful experience. My kids and their cousins like pretending that they were part of the fort. The museum was impressive with lots of information for it being smaller. The lookout looks like it needed some trimming. You couldn't really see the river very well. That's the only thing I really saw that could be improved."
"We came back into town to visit family and decided to take the family out to Fort Osage. The last time I visited Fort Osage was probably in 1992. Needless to say there’s been a ton of improvements since I last visited. There’s now a beautiful visitor center that has great displays and lots of great information about about the force history as well as the areas history. The grounds are very well up kept and it’s a fun visit when you get to learn a lot and see any part of history. The only reason we didn’t give it five stars is that in some of the towers there’s some wasp nests that probably could be cleaned out, but then again it is Missouri, ha ha!!!"
"Took two scout troops to do the overnight with Lewis and Clark experience. All I can say it was awesome. Three workers Chris, Mike and Patrick was great. They put in a lot of effort from feeding us when we got there, to making sure we were safe during a storm. The kids enjoyed the tour of the fort and factory. The museum also was great. I would recommend stopping by this fort for a visit and if you are in scouts do the overnight experience. Your scouts will love this."
