About the Business

Bradford Dickinson White

Bradford Dickinson White Nature Preserve is a tranquil park and tourist attraction located at 12799-12295 36th Street Southeast in Lowell, Michigan, United States. The preserve offers a serene escape into nature, with trails that wind through pine and oak-hickory forests, providing scenic views of the wetlands below. Visitors often remark on the solitude and wilderness ambiance of the preserve, despite its proximity to the city of Lowell.

The preserve is a Category 2 LCWM nature preserve, with limited parking and shorter trail systems that can be hiked in 30 minutes or less. The trails are marked with blue blazes on the trees and traverse rolling terrain, guiding hikers up and down sometimes steep slopes. A bridge crosses Karen Creek, connecting the trail system. The preserve is home to diverse plant species and protects wetlands along a tributary to the Grand River, contributing to water quality improvement.

The Land Conservancy is working on a long-term project to restore oak barrens remnants in the preserve and improve the health of the oak-hickory forest. Management practices include selective forest thinning, prescribed burning, and invasive species removal. The preserve's history dates back to the late 1800s when the land was logged, and in 2005, 45 acres were donated by Evangeline White in honor of her late husband, Bradford White, to create the nature preserve.

Bradford Dickinson White Nature Preserve is a testament to the preservation efforts of the White family and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving natural land in the region. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of the preserve, hike its trails, and appreciate the legacy of conservation left by the White family.

"Great place for a quiet hike. There's a creek about 3 minutes in."

"This is a wonderful Nature Preserve! They provide a welcome board with some useful information and the trail itself provides a perfect Saturday morning hike with a three year old. Parking is limited but with a short loop track, I don't suspect it is ever full. This preserve includes: ✔️ A small creek with a bridge ✔️ Mushrooms galore ✔️ Small, fast-moving wildlife ✔️ Toddler manageable hills ✔️ Looped trail so no back tracking ✔️ A prescribed burning monitor area"

"The trail is well marked, it's only about 3/4 mile long and goes thru a mixture of hardwoods, pine forests and lowlands. An easy and accessible short hike."
