Charlevoix Country Club

"Made a tee time on Friday night on GOLFNOW for a 2:20 tee time on Saturday. On Saturday morning I received a phone call from the Pro Shop indicating that it may be a little later than that because they have a 92 person shotgun event and it may push my tee time a little bit. Good news was the course will be wide open once they are done so we should flow a little better than normal. Who does that???!!! That was a first!!! It also was the indication of things to come. When I arrived and mentioned I received a call earlier, the man said, "Oh yeah, Joe right?" He then proceeded talk to me and welcome me. The Marshall and cart attendant were just as helpful. I got paired up with a very fine gentleman who is about my age (an Architect from New Hampshire I think) who was RV'ing through Michigan, very nice dude and fun as hell to play with. We chatted about new golf clubs, business and his upcoming tee time at Arcadia Bluffs on Monday! The course was just impeccable. Practice range was well maintained and the range balls were fresh and sparkling clean! Tees, fairways, greens were perfect. Ball stood up on the fairway like they were on a practice mat! Greens were lush, true and medium speed. I like em a little faster but that's just me. Bunkers appeared to be nice, but quite honestly I was never in one. There's lots of variations in the holes. Some great short risk reward par 4's and par 5's, a couple long par 4s and short-ish par 3s and longer par 3s. But it's secluded. What houses are on the course are quite hidden. Except for on one of the par 5s on the back nine where homes line the landing area off the tee on the right. But fortunately I birdied that hole and we saw up close this amazing porcupine!!! As anticipated with the course clearing out in front of us we played in 3:30 mins. Waiting a bunch on the 2some in front of us, but the conversation flowed and the weather was "Chamber of Commerce" perfect!!! 67 degrees, no wind and no clouds!!! It was like playing indoors! The last hole is a dooooozie!! 424 yard par 4 with water protecting the green, but I am okay drive and a nutted 5 hybrid to about 15 feet and made the putt or a departing birdie. Too bad the double, triple and 3 putt bogey on 7, 9 and 10 screwed up a 5 birdie round! Then I came home and watched the Horns whoop Alabama in Tuscaloosa!!! There's only one more thing that could of happened that day that would of made a 6 star day!!! Cmon now, you can't be greedy!!!"

"Great course...always in great shape. It's challenging but fair. Staff is always helpful. Good dogs at the halfway house. Ron the ranger is the best!"

"I wanted to see a map of the course before playing so I went into the shop the night before to ask for one. The old man working was super rude, and gave me a look like, “why the hell would a golf course have a map”. He showed me how each tee had its own map, then angrily said, “What are you trying to do?” I was shocked at how he was treating me, and said, “I don’t know, I just wanted to see if you had a map.” I thanked him, and left."

"Doug is the man! In love with this course and everything it offers. Only really able to play after work during the week and they are accommodating with later tee times, but every time I am made felt guilty for playing 18 holes by the pro shop staff. Typically it's just myself golfing or at most a two-some. Love it here, would love a check in option so there isn't anyone trying to make me feel bad for playing the tee times offered."

"Fantastic course! Everything was top notch. The pro shop attendant, Don, was very friendly and accomodating! Bag man (forgot his name) was very friendly, courteous, and willing to discuss this wonderful course. The fairways were like playing on a sponge (good thing)."
