About the Business

Nicholas Kik Pool

Nicholas Kik Pool is the ultimate destination for aquatic fun in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Located at 1018 Walter Street in Upjohn Park, this facility offers open swimming, aqua fitness, swimming lessons, lap swimming, and even hosts an annual swim meet. Named after Nicholas Kik Jr., who led the City of Kalamazoo’s Parks Department for over two decades, this pool is a beloved community spot.

The pool features restrooms, locker rooms, a concession stand, picnic tables, lounge chairs, shade areas, and a diving board for added excitement. Lifeguards are always on duty to ensure the safety of all guests. Whether you're looking to relax by the poolside or get active in the water, Nicholas Kik Pool has something for everyone.

If you're interested in purchasing a season pass, be sure to set up a Civic Rec account for each family member in advance to streamline the process. Season passes cover entry to the pool for the entire summer season and can be purchased at the Kzoo Parks office or at the pool once it opens. Additionally, daily passes are available for purchase on-site.

New for this year, Youth/Teen Season Passes are available for ages 12-17, and residents can apply for financial assistance to help cover the cost. The pool can also be rented for group events or birthday parties, making it a great spot for celebrations.

Don't miss out on the fun at Nicholas Kik Pool this summer! The pool will be open from June 8 to August 13, seven days a week. Be sure to check the schedule for closures due to swim meets and summer camps. Aqua fitness classes will also be offered for adults and youth, included in season passes or available for purchase with a daily pool pass. For more information, contact Kzoo Parks at 251 Mills Street or call 311.

"The pool is old but has been renovated during the pandemic and is in good shape now. The lifeguards are excellent and service oriented. I am a competitive swimmer and my team trains there each summer in early mornings and evenings. I would like to swim there more so my complaints refer to the lack of access. The pool opens two weeks after memorial day and closes three weeks before labor day, the traditional opening and closing dates of outdoor pools in Michigan. It usually is also closed an the 4th of July when people have off and could use the pool. I dint know the schedule this year but in the past noon lap swim was from 11:30to 12:30. Then closed from 12:30 to 1:00. Working people like me who want to swim during lunch hour would usually have 12-1:00 for their break so i dint even bother to go. The pool is a great resource but most people in the area do not even know it exists. More use would lead to more funding. More access and advertising would lead to more use."

"Public city pool is well maintained and very clean. Not quite enough loungers but plenty of shaded areas and a good concession. Experience will directly depend upon the crowd there that day."
