"They have taken another giant leap in food quality and now creating a family-friendly and smoke free environment. I wanted to give them the credit they deserve for the improvements after being there for the soft opening. Give MATEY'S a shot for your next dinner out. I heard nothing but high praises about the scallops but was not there to try them myself. The lobster roll was fantastic. The crab cake was perfectly constructed and prepared as well. The Buffalo chicken flatbread was my favorite. The risotto and braised short rib deserves praise as well. Greek salad is not my favorite but was done well too. I would think their soft opening with their new menu went as well as one could hope for and I am sure they will have a very busy season ahead. The updates on the building looked incredible too- I hardly felt like I was even still in the Matey's of old. Sitting on the deck in the sun or in the newly renovated lower level is enjoyable when it isn't too busy. Otherwise parking can be a hassle. One of the better areas to grab a drink in town."

"Such a fun place! Decorated to the max for Christmas and decorated more than any place we've seen. Steve, the bartender was excellent; one of the friendliest people wave come across on our travels. We had boneless wings(the sauce was good and it was a generous portion), the fries (delicious fresh cut humongous portion), and the California flatbread (fresh, tasty, and a good size). As a treat, we got a holiday martini flight and it was such fun! For a laid back bar vibe, this place was a find!"

"Having passed by Matey's Restaurant many times en route to Lake Michigan, I finally decided to try this pirate-themed sports bar and grill for my birthday dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by my maiden voyage into this nautical nook. The appetizer round brought pleasant surprises, with the Oysters Rockefeller and fried mozzarella sticks hitting the spot perfectly. These classic starters set a delicious tone for the evening. The real standout of the evening, however, was the Voodoo Bucket cocktail. This rum and fruit concoction packed a punch that took me by surprise. It was potent and flavorful, so much so that one was more than enough! If they weren't quite so strong (and large), I'd have been tempted to order a second. My main course, the mac and cheese with fried chicken, didn't quite match the excitement of the rest of the meal. It was a bit on the bland side, although the generous portion size almost made up for it. Despite the lack of punch in the flavor department, there were no real complaints from me. My companion opted for one of the weekly specials - a prime rib sandwich. It looked absolutely mouth-watering and is something I'd consider trying on a return visit. The availability of both seasonal and weekly specials is certainly a point in Matey's favor, offering variety and the promise of something new with each visit. In keeping with the spirit of trying something new, I opted for an apple pie shot for dessert. Sweet, smooth, and reminiscent of a homemade apple pie, it was certainly a standout. The service was notably quick, perhaps because we visited during the off-season and were the only patrons at the bar. Having witnessed a bustling parking lot during the summer, I'd be curious to see how the service fares during the peak season. All in all, my maiden voyage to Matey's was a gratifying experience. Despite a slightly underwhelming main course, the delightful appetizers, potent cocktails, and the allure of weekly specials make a compelling case for a return trip. Matey's Restaurant, I suspect, will see this happy sailor again."

"I have driven by Matey’s restaurant quite a few times on my way to Freedom Boat Club in Michigan City, Indiana… And I finally stopped in for lunch on a weekday. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was tasty, and the staff was friendly. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meal and I LOVED the wedge salad. I imagine this place can get pretty rowdy on the weekends, but it was pretty calm for a weekday lunch!"

"We were immediately & enthusiastically greeted by Steven, the bartender. He brought a lot of energy & stopped by our table later to ask about our meal. We thought maybe he was an owner but no, just awesome. My husband ordered the salmon which he loved! I ordered the chicken strip basket with fries which was also very good, I took most of it to go and finished it later (still yummy.) Our waitress was attentive, we were on a tight schedule & she made sure we got everything we needed."
