"As a Kalamazoo Native I have a love/hate relationship with Shakes. I think Covid really changed this place. It’s no longer the fun and interactive Shakespeare’s we used to know. Now it’s a good pre-gaming bar before you go to the actual bars. They don’t even have “bar” hours anymore. Food and drinks: They have the best Nachos in town! All of the bar food is phenomenal overall! Service: The Bouncers take their jobs extremely serious. If you look at them the wrong way they won’t let you in. I think Shakes was just affected by the staffing shortage and covid. Service is consistently slow. Atmosphere: The TVs are small, I wouldn’t recommend for big games. The population is very diverse. The environment can feel uptight and strict due to the extreme security measures. If you’re looking for a chill, controlled and quiet place to eat and have a couple beers before going to the fun bars this is the spot! Great place to bring your parents and Grandparents!"

"As a West Mi/WMU family, I have been visiting Shakespeare’s Pub with my family for many years, it was always a great place to watch a game with good pub food but after my experience on this last Sat 12/23, I will never return or recommend them. At 4pm, it was freezing cold inside to the point that people were moving from the window tables to an area of four tops next to the fireplace, which was not on, so I requested it be turned on. Although it was dead business wise, an hour later, I had to ask for the 3rd time. We ordered a Turkey Reuben and Fried Cauliflower appetizer. The appetizer, at $10, came on a small side plate with only three semi 1/4 size pieces of cauliflower, the rest just fried crumbs. Upon trying those pieces, they were all breading so I sent it back. When the bill arrived, they had adjusted the appetizer price by $2 but not removed it from the bill. I asked for the Mgr, and she told me that they buy it from a supplier, so the portion and quality was not their responsibility. She said she did not remove it from the bill because we had eaten several pieces. And I asked her how would a customer know to send it back without trying TWO pieces and seeing the poor quality of what remained? Or that it was not made in-house or a kitchen mgr would not inspect the quality before leaving the kitchen? She still refused to remove the sent back appetizer. I have spent thousands there over the years and they lost me over poor customer service, a terrible mgrs attitude and $10 appetizer that should have not been on the menu at that poor quality."

"Great place in Kzoo to watch games. Solid food offerings (favorites are Jalapeno Royale Burger, Chicken Nachos, or Fish n chips - all among the best in town). Solid beer selection with lots of rotating taps and local brewery options. Updated, 3/22 - can report still the best nachos on Kzoo Updated, 11/23 - still the best nachos!"

"As someone who has a lot of trouble feeling safe and comfortable in bars I had a great time. I went with some friends on a Wednesday for their karaoke and we had a blast. It wasn’t super busy and the vibes of the room and staff were warm and friendly. We had cheese bread and a few drinks, the cheese bread was fantastic i could NOT get enough! I am a “blue tropical drink” girlie and got exactly what I wanted in their Blue Hawaiian."

"I don't usually go out to bars. I enjoy going to this place though. At night it can be a little too much. We went on Saturday afternoon. They used to have live entertainment down stairs, I don't know if they still do. We did get pretty drunk here. The free popcorn is great. I like salty snacks when I drink."
