"Don’t walk, run as far as you can from this company. Nothing but trouble trying to collect 4 months on a death claim annuity. From the local agent not returning calls to driving 600 miles to hand deliver documents to home office. Only to receive the original death certificate in an unsealed envelope addressed to a completely different person. We are lucky it even arrived. Now to see if the check is made out correctly. It’s hard enough losing a loved one, this process shouldn’t be this complicated!"
"Our father with dementia was sold a life insurance policy with Columbus Life by an estate planner in 2004, unbeknownst to his family. This was a 2nd to die policy due to the fact that neither my father nor our stepmother were healthy enough to qualify for such a policy individually. Not only were they not healthy physically, they were compromised mentally as well. The purchase price was $529,000, all of my father’s savings of 38 years as a Boeing engineer. Here we are, 19 years later, and, if our 93 year old stepmother doesn’t pass away by 10/19/2024 we will be required to pay in excess of $20,000 PER MONTH to maintain the policy or forfeit the payoff amount of $916,000. Not only is this sick, it is absolutely unserious, unethical and immoral and unfortunately legal?? Run from this company and anyone trying to sell their products to you. Don’t let this happen to your family, it’s absolutely disgusting and devastating."
"I do not recommend! I tried to close my account with less than a year having it, due to financial issues & they're saying I do not get any of what I put into it. Not even a small percentage, so im losing all that money $300 a month that I've put in. Has this happened to anyone else!?!?"
"Misquoted what my payout was when I tried to close policy and not only that but it took them FIVE MONTHS to close it out. I would never EVER recommend Columbus Life to anyone. If you're insistent on keeping your clients on hold for over an hour, the least you could do is change your awful hold music!"
"This company likes to play the blame game. Two months ago they gave me wrong information about my ability to withdraw funds against the insurance policies. They corrected it and said they would investigate and advise me of why the misstatement occurred. it never happened. now my wife dies on May 24, they are put on notice on June 5, and still no records or forms are sent to me. I’m told today that they’re still processing the claim. How long does it take to process a simple document to be forwarded to the policy owner. then today they tell me they can’t find any records of any calls I made, then a supervisor gets on the call and conveniently finds it only to tell me it could still be a while before the papers will be sent to me. Then, when I ask her to get copies of the telephone conversations, she says you’re only send them under a subpoena. She then goes on to say that I don’t have to file a lawsuit to have a subpoena? Well, that’s simply not true. then, when I ask for contact information for the legal department, she refuses to give one All I’m getting is a run around on a claim that should’ve been sent to me for initial filing and submission within days of the first phone call. no one should ever buy from this company."
