"One of the things I do as a nomadic writer is sample iconic regional foods whenever possible. At Skyline I ordered a hot dog and small 3-way. I really liked the chili, but it would be a big disappointment to anyone expecting a Texas or Southwest style chili. It also is very different from an Italian meat sauce. It’s a flavor all its own and I found it very pleasant. But I thought everything else just meh at best. The hotdog and bun were flavorless, the spaghetti nothing but a filler, and (you’ll be shocked at me saying this), there was way too much shredded cheese. I have no idea why these are so popular. Plus my food was served barely warm. My waitress was excellent, however, and fixed the cold food situation for me immediately. All of the people working there seemed attentive and helpful. 5 star service. As I said, I did enjoy the chili and ordered a small takeout container of it to have another day. I think on its own, it holds up. Actually, while I was eating the chili over the spaghetti and being thankful I ordered the smallest size possible, I kept thinking how good this meat sauce would be on a fluffy baked potato."
