"I really can’t speak to Mr McDowell’s competence, because as far as I can tell in the 4 months I wasted allowing him to represent my loved one he did almost nothing! That is why despite having already paying more than $12,000 towards an agreed upon fee I dismissed Mathew as our attorney. That’s right I had so little faith in his actual interest in representing my loved one I sacrificed over $12 K and started from scratch with a new lawyer! Here are the events and My Observations: 1. So what did I get for the $12K+ spent? Representation at first appearance. 2 jail visits from the associate (never Mathew) the second visit was to deliver the discovery papers at 10pm after pretty much begging for it. Filing for a demand for discovery which after I viewed the discovery I noticed was obviously incomplete was never amended. He had to request the links for the video from the evidence website twice because it expires after 3 months and he didn’t view it the first time. According to Mathew he was in contact with the prosecutor negotiating a deal I cannot speak to if or if not that was actually happening all I know is on the rare occasion I was able to speak with Mathew it was always the same thing “we are waiting to hear back from prosecution and should hear something back at the end of the week” I heard that for 3 months straight. An offer never appeared or was presented. A NOTICE OF TAKING DEPOSITION filed just 3 weeks before pretrial with the depositions set to take place The DAY BEFORE PRETRIAL. This is when I decided to change representation for someone more interested in representing my loved one. 2. Mathew never went to visit my loved one to speak with them the entire time he was hired. They are in jail with a zero bond (no fault of Mathew’s). His only communication with her or me has been over the phone. He never even did a lawyer video visit with her, only sent his associate to speak with her twice and that was after us pleading for it to happen. All his information from my loved one is all second hand knowledge. 3. He has not shown up to any court appearance for her. The first appearance was handled by the associate and so was the first court date which was to consolidate and get a continuance. 4. His conveniently located office on 301 is a virtual mailbox handled by a polite gentlemen who works the front desk at the public storage facility. Mathew may actually have an office, but I have never seen it or know of any location. 5. Mathew and his associate (which may or may not still be in his employment because I have not heard from her in weeks) do not answer the phone regularly. Keep in mind I would only call once a week or once every other week and sometimes even less frequently for updates. It would take me days of continuous calling or texting to get any kind of response. 6. The complete lack of concern at his dismissal, though done through text, was almost palpable. Though I personally would not lose sleep having been essentially been gifted $12K for little to no measurable effort or concern. My advice to any one seeking representation when they get a frantic call from a loved one is to take your time and do your research because they are not going anywhere soon. Better they sit a few extra hours than you waste thousands of dollars and months of precious litigation time than hire the wrong attorney"

"I definitely feel my case could of been handheld better. If you don’t mind having to reach out yourself for updates and not receiving texts back for a week, being told “I am working on a serious felony case right now” as if my case was being pushed to the side. I’m sure there’s better lawyers but also there are probably worse lawyers."

"Matthew McDowell is the best attorney in my eyes. He took my case and gave me a manageable payment plan. I was facing 5 years in prison and 2 years probation and adjudicated as a felon. My felony was droppedAnd for my misdemeanor I got one year probation. He was my husband's lawyer for 12 years prior to mineHe kept him out of Prison. He's always Pleasant to talk to and has a smile on his face.He fights for the people And he also took my case From a different County. I'm 100%Satisfied with his Services as a criminal attorney. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"

"I obtained Mr. McDowell a little late in my case but he did not let that detour him from assisting me with my case. In fact he handled both at the same time and I couldn't be more thankful to have this situation behind me. He is very informative and knowledgeable about his work and really does fight for his clients, also not to mention his very flexible payment plans. Thank you Mr. McDowell!!"
