"This is probably the worst office on the UM campus. I work at UM so I have tried to stick with the office out of convenience and because the fact that all my son's other specialists are here so I like the idea that they can share notes on the EMR. DO NOT go to this office. My son receives a monthly shot that prevents RSV. The first year they just stopped calling me. I assumed he was done for the season. This was only to find out the following year when I tried to re initiate them, that they said they just lost track of him and he was supposed to receive though the summer because RSV season in South FL is all year round. Ok we restarted the shots in Sept 2022. Everything seems great. However they just don't call us back in August 2023 the following year. So I call to schedule his appt. They they tell us there are no more shots and he has to be seen by a provider before they renew. They don't have any appointments for another month, which means that he will be at least 2 months without his shot. I beg them to overbook him since this is their oversight and I'm am employee and can run him over any time and he really needs these shots because of his health condition. They tell me there is nothing they can do. Come a month later we go and they say that the insurance may not cover the shot because he has received "too many" shots. I ask how is this since last year they told me he didn't receive enough? Also he has been hospitalized 3 times for other viruses so obviously he is very high risk so they can make a case. Additionally had ANYONE told me that this would be the case I would have skipped the summer when he was home and chosen to give them to him in the fall when he went to school After much arguing they say they will submit the claim to insurance and try. We wait and wait. 4 weeks later my son GETS RSV and lands in the ICU. We go to the office to tell them that they can cancel the claim because he has the actual virus and is fighting for his life and will have natural immunity. Well.....come to find out they submitted the claim incorrectly and there was no denial...just no submission and they "don't know what happened". We were livid. Their excuse is that they are short staffed. My husband and I are in healthcare and I'm an employee at UM. Everyone works with staffing issues. Dropping the ball on a potentially deadly virus is not acceptable. You would think that being in healthcare and working on this campus would make this easier. No way. So if you are not in health care, know that you will be advocating A LOT as a full time job at this office and it's not worth it because even when they say they will do things they don't. If this wasn't bad enough, they referred my son for a sleep study. They said if they don't call me then I should call them. I called about 4 weeks after the referral (obviously preoccupied with my son's acute illness). I come to find out that they didn't have a referral. Then they ask what my insurance is....they don't accept this insurance. Again this is the standard UM employee insurance, they should have a general idea who accepts this as a UM office. Even if they didn't when the referral is denied they should call me and tell me to go do a different center. The sleep center said they probably called the office to tell them that they don't accept this and I'd have to call them back to see if there is someone else we can go to. I'm just going to find another office at this point. DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE. THE WORST PATIENT CARE."
