About the Business

Duluth Depot

The Duluth Depot is a popular tourist attraction located at 3595 Buford Highway in Duluth, Georgia, United States. This institution offers train rides on select days, with the opportunity to explore a variety of real, life-size trains, cars, and buses that have played a significant role in transportation history. Visitors can also browse through an extensive collection of railroad memorabilia in the Exhibit Hall and Theater.

While the institution is open for train rides on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, there will be no train operations on Saturday, Jan. 20th due to expected cold weather. However, there is still plenty to see and admire, with discounted admission prices for adults, seniors, and young railroad fans on Saturdays. Visitors are advised to dress warmly as the depot can be cool.

Located just 1.5 miles south of Downtown Duluth, the Duluth Depot is the Southeastern Railway Museum, Georgia's Official Transportation History Museum. It boasts the largest collection of "rolling stock" in the state, providing a unique and immersive experience for all visitors.

National Train Day, an annual celebration of rail transportation history in the United States, is also observed at the Duluth Depot. The institution strives to offer an educational and entertaining experience for all visitors, with train rides included in regular admission and subject to availability based on weather, volunteer staffing, and equipment maintenance schedules.

"Just down the road, or more correctly down the rail line, from the Southeastern Railway Museum, Duluth Depot is an old passenger station now used by the Duluth Historical Society. This low-slung but beautifully-finished structure is a perfect example of southern railway infrastructure, and the arrival of the evening train from Atlanta became a popular time to meet with neighbours. The depot eventually closed in the early 1950s, and it wasn’t until 2014 that it started to be used as an additional exhibition space for recording and displaying the city’s history."
