"Created in 1815, this square is central to all the squares and is surrounded by numerous places of interest. In recent times, it was made famous in the movie Forrest Gump. The statue of James Oglethorpe stands in the center. The pictures include the Savannah Theater (est 1818), the First Baptist Church (1833) and the Philbrick-Eastman House (1847) among many other interesting places."

"Don’t look for the forest Gump bench - its in a museum. Chippewa Square is one of the most known squares in Savannah, Georgia, having been established in 1815. It’s named in honor of American soldiers killed in the Battle of Chippewa during the War of 1812. The square is famously featured in the film “Forrest Gump,” where the main character narrates his life story while sitting on a bench. This has made it a popular tourist attraction, although the bench was a movie prop and is not actually there. Surrounding the square, you’ll find historic buildings, including the Savannah Theatre, which is one of the United States’ oldest continually-operating theatres. The square is a hub of activity and a lovely spot to relax under the oak trees draped with Spanish moss, typical of the area’s scenery. It’s located at the intersection of Bull and McDonough streets, serving as a staple of Savannah’s historic district."

"Went to see the Forrest Gump bench but it's not located here. Still a very beautiful square. Beautiful mature trees. Several benches for sitting and enjoying your coffee or chocolate from the local small businesses across the street. Lucky to have the sounds of the local trumpet player while strolling around and taking pictures. Statue is of Savannah, Georgia founder James Oglethorpe."
