About the Business

Esopus Meadows Preserve

Esopus Meadows Preserve, located at 257 River Road in Ulster Park, New York, is a picturesque park and tourist attraction spread across 96 acres. This beautiful preserve offers a variety of hiking trails through rolling forests and along the shoreline, leading to a stunning river lookout. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing picnic under the pavilion at the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail site, with breathtaking views of the Hudson River.

Although the meadows are now underwater, the area was once a grazing spot for cattle. Visitors can also explore the Phenology Trail and assist scientists in studying plant species to track climate change. The health and safety of park visitors are a top priority, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. All special events and group outings must be pre-approved to ensure the well-being of everyone.

In addition to the natural beauty of Esopus Meadows Preserve, visitors can explore the nearby John Burroughs Nature Sanctuary in West Park and the historic Rondout District in Kingston. The sanctuary features hiking trails and the rustic cabin of renowned writer John Burroughs, while the Rondout District offers shops, restaurants, and the Hudson River Maritime Museum with illuminating exhibits and boat trips to the Rondout Lighthouse.

Experience the inspirational power of the Hudson River at Esopus Meadows Preserve, where visitors have been connecting with nature since 1963. Visit this scenic park to enjoy the beauty of the Hudson River and surrounding landscapes.

"This park has been updated and has several levels of trails from easy to moderate to heavy all trails are marked with color coded markers so you can easily follow the trail that your on. It’s always a good idea to bring a trail buddy , and in case you get in trouble keep water and first aide kit , fully charged phone . Since there has been heavy rains recently some trails can be difficult to traverse . I recommend this place for experience and novice hikers and there is an easier trail to bring older children with you , great way to enjoy nature."

"This is a great, quiet place to walk. Four short connected trails that each have a good size hill. Trails are well maintained. We walked the blue trail then back tracked to the yellow then red back to blue and it came out to about 2 miles."
