Lofts at Lakeview Apartments

"My tenure at Lofts has been a nightmare, largely due to the irresponsible and unsympathetic behavior exhibited by Denise Parkins, Jessica Philipps, and Ana Lopez from the leasing office. Upon the end of my lease, I inadvertently failed to provide a written notice, trusting Ana Lopez's assurance that verbal notification sufficed and that returning the keys on the last day was all that was needed. However, on my move-out day when I attempted to clarify where to drop the keys, Denise inquired about the notice, revealing a glaring communication gap within their team. This lack of coordination was evident when no one took responsibility for miscommunicating the notice period or confirming the lease end date. Attempting to resolve this issue in person, Denise's dismissive behavior forced me to make multiple attempts just to have a conversation. She showed no concern for the burden this placed on me, insisting on late fees and utility charges despite acknowledging the office's mistake. Even after four months, obtaining a resolution from Denise and her team remains an ongoing struggle, with the added inconvenience of accepting payment only via certified checks, demanding further effort on my part. Adding to this ordeal, the leasing team misplaced two vital packages, one containing my passport and the other my MacBook. The sudden discovery of my passport after my inquiry following its delivery to the leasing office by FedEx raises suspicions. The lack of accountability and care demonstrated by Denise, Jessica, and Ana throughout these incidents is appalling. What's more concerning is Denise’s repeated excuse of being new and unable to assist whenever I sought help. This consistent lack of willingness to address concerns further exemplifies the unprofessionalism and incompetence prevalent in the leasing office at Lofts. Their indifference to tenant concerns, their mishandling of important documents and packages, and their overall lack of professionalism make them the epitome of incompetence in the real estate world. While I am glad to have found my new home that has exceptional customer service, prospective residents, most importantly international students, should beware of the distress and disregard they may encounter when dealing with these individuals at Lofts."

"Updates：Terrible experience. My AC has broken down for 5 times within 2 months. My emails to the leasing have been ignored for 3 weeks. Choose Flats or TC. Avoid Lofts！ Reply: No it’s not fixed on the 1st day and my AC is not working by far! Sweating to death!!! Moving in today. AC isn’t working, one light switch broken, bathtub ceiling leaking, bathtub extremely disgusting. Just CANT live! Have to stay in hotel 200$ a night"

"Serious noise issues. The walls and floors are too thin and it's left to your luck to have considerate neighbors who won't be noisy. Haven't been able to get a good night's sleep in my apartment since weeks now because the neighbors upstairs are too noisy and the management can't do anything about it. Grad school students who need sleep - consider other options. For the same price better apartments are available with better amenities. Gave an additional star because management is quick with maintenance requests, but regretting moving here every day because of the noise issue. Edit: To your reply, I've talked to your office regarding this on call about 5 times to no fruitful outcome, and have also exchanged multiple emails, the last of which never got a response from your team."

"4.5 stars. I lived at the lofts for years and I had a great experience. It's walking distance from Duke hospital. Many people who live there work or study at duke hospital. It is a diverse community. The apartments are well lit and spacious and well maintained. Over the yrs there were a few break ins but almost always at the ground floor apartments when the doors were unlocked or in unlocked cars. That's more an indication of the general area. The lofts building itself has fob access and deadbolts in each apartment so I found it safe. Some areas of improvement include having more recycling bins, and more regular garage and corridor cleaning. Also would be nice to have the coffee bar restarted as it was closed at start of pandemic. Another area of feedback is that some leasing office staff were standoff-ish but others like Gabby were really nice. Also all issues were always handled in a timely manner. Maintennance was great. It's kind of pricey but good if you want to walk to work at duke."

"I have lived here since August of last year and it’s the worst place I have ever lived for the price. The appliances are old and disgusting. The stove isn’t even level. The employees at the front desk are incredibly incompetent and rude. We have had bug issues since day one that have yet to be resolved. Getting packages is impossible as the office is never open. They test the fire alarms every other day it seems. They tore out the theater room which we pay for by the way and in the process caused the fire alarm to go off at 4 in the morning where we all had to stand outside for an hour. Also, they had to shut water off during the day to different parts of the complex for an entire week because when they started construction on the theater room they found out their plumbing in the building was never to code in the first place. Makes you wonder what else isn’t to code. DO. NOT. LIVE. HERE. I can’t wait to move out. Counting down the days. Edit: they added a package concierge service but if you don’t pick up your package in a certain amount of time they charge you. I’ve had package concierge at every apartment I’ve lived at for the past 5 years and never have I been charged for the service. It’s just another money grab. Do not live here. It’s all college students who are up and being loud all hours of the night. Not a place for working professionals. And if you have a USPS package delivered when the office isn’t open it’s just left in the common areas. I asked the office and was told it was the mail carriers problem not the offices. I have attached pictures. I will keep documenting the rest of my experience at this sad excuse for an apartment complex. IN RESPONSE TO OWNER RESPONSE: You do not have a five star standard. All common areas are dirty and the place needed a new paint job years ago. This place is a scam and I have evidence of this. You go through staff like crazy. Always firing and hiring new people. That’s never a good sign. there is still mail sitting outside the office every night after they close and on weekends where anyone can steal it. Our hallway alone is missing 6 emergency lights. That’s definitely safe. Hah. What a joke. GO ELSEWHERE. UNLESS YOU’RE A DUKE STUDENT THEY TREAT YOU WITH ZERO RESPECT. RUN AS FAR AWAY AS YOU CAN. SCREW THESE DISGUSTING DEGENERATES!!!"
