About the Business

Saint Lawrence Spirits Château is a unique institution located in Clayton, New York, offering a combination of food, lodging, and a restaurant experience. Our award-winning craft spirits, including Vodka, Gin, Absinthe, Moonshine, Whiskey, and Bourbon, are all distilled using 100% Saint Lawrence River water, giving each bottle a special connection to the river.
As a family-owned and operated establishment, we are dedicated to producing high-quality small batch spirits with local roots. Our distillers harvest native botanicals and raw materials from Lucky Star Ranch, our family farm, and work closely with local farmers to source grains and ingredients for our products. In fact, 100% of the grains used in our Moonshine, Whiskey, and Bourbon come from New York State Farms, with 90% sourced from Jefferson County.
Our distillery features state-of-the-art equipment, including a 500-gallon Vendome Copper Pot Still, fermenters, a mash cooker, and a bottling and packaging system. In response to increased demand, we recently installed a new vodka column to enhance our production capabilities.
The heart of our institution is the meticulously renovated 1937 Manor, which houses our Farm to Table restaurant, "The Château," the distillery, and a seasonal tasting room overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Founded in 2015 by Father & Son Distillers, Jody & Bill Garrett, Saint Lawrence Spirits Château is a destination where guests can enjoy exceptional craft spirits and a truly unique dining experience.
Reviews
"Came for an overnight stay to celebrate my birthday. We loved the spacious, unique and charming room. The location was beautiful, but everything else was a giant disappointment. Check-in was disorganized at best. No one seemed to know what was going on. I had to ask for bottled water for our room 4x before being told we would be charged, then that they had none. We planned on a nice dinner, but ended up sitting in a pub style room and eating sub standard burgers because the dining room was "closed for the season". The gal who was providing the live entertainment was fantastic however. To brighten our spirits, we walked over to the tasting room and again were disappointed to see that it was closed- on a Friday evening. The next morning was the kicker- 5:45am and the downstairs phone starts ringing off the hook, uninterrupted, for over an hour. Not to worry. Staff arrived at 7am and started blaring music that could be heard throughout the rooms. When my boyfriend went down to say something, he was told the ''music wasn't that loud". We packed our bags and left shortly after. Everything had been such a let down up to this point that we didn't even bother to chance breakfast/brunch. It's a shame because this place has so much potential. I wanted to enjoy my birthday weekend getaway, but it just ended up being a birthday weekend disappointment."
"Went here for lunch! The views were breathtaking. The service was so great even with how large of a group we were. The food was so good!"
"Stopped for brunch on a September Friday to be told they aren’t doing brunch now. Bummer. However, we did totally enjoy our experience- free tastings (additional charge for more) and exceptional cocktails! Did a gin “flight” and a Sazerac cocktail and they were delicious. Sat at the bar area and was very comfortable with nice view over patio out to the water. Did have a limited lunch menu and our steak sandwich w/fries and huge salad were really, really good. Very knowledgeable staff and pleasant conversation. So glad we went (and discounted some less-than reviews)."
"WHAT happened??? Have been there many times over the past few years & this visit was absolutely the worst! 5 brunch items on the menu now. 4 tables with 2 waitresses and still had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks (Gin Bloody Mary was very nice!). 20 more minutes for the food, but during the wait the waitress came and took my BL glass without asking if I wanted another, I probably would have had a couple more. Food came out & my rare burger was well done, no one came to check on us EVER. Had to go to the bar to find out where to pay since we never got a check or asked why I left the burger uneaten. Waitress suddenly appeared! No excuse for anything, no "gee, I'm sorry but I was SO busy" nothing. I will NOT be back. Horrible service & food."
"All I would say about this place is that the view is nice. They were out of most of the food we tried to order. The drinks we ordered took forever to show up. The food the one couple ordered was subpar at best. The only thing good was the seasoned French fries. I would steer clear of this place and go somewhere else."
