"Went to see Henry V in June. The setting is gorgeous. Their interpretation, not so much. Spoiler, but written long after the season ended. They had single actors playing multiple roles without any change of costume or indication they were in a different character. Worst was Henry was played by a woman and Princess Katherine, a man. Nothing in their interpretation indicated why it needed a gender bender presentation. So 1 star for a very hard to follow rendition + 1 star for the exquisite setting."
"This was a very cool experience. The quality of the performances was top notch and it was very entertaining. The entire staff was friendly and genuinely happy. It may not be something we do every year but we would definitely go back. The one thing that was disappointing is the location of the tent being kind of in a little valley. You can't see an awesome landscape behind the performance like we had hoped for and werw looking forward to. Taking one star off for that, but it's in no way related to the quality of the production or the professionalism of the cast and crew."
"Excellent redition of Loves Labor Lost. Excellent use of the theatre - comfortable seats. Can't wait to go back"
"The HV Shakespeare Festival is on my list as one of the best things to do in the summer in the HV. The troupe was formerly at Boscobel and now awaiting its permanent home in Garrison. It is still under the tent as construction has not yet begun on the state of the art new venue complex which will be nothing less than spectacular. We went on a hazy night but the views are spectacular. Love's Labour's Lost was our choice this year and was a rollicking fun time. This talented troupe has done it was again. See one of the plays, you will love it!"
"Just saw Henry V! Excellent show with an amazing cast at a beautiful venue! There is nothing else I could more highly recommend than coming to Hudson Valley Shakespeare! Adding on the review with pictures as I just returned to see Loves Labors Lost and excuse my profanity, but holy mother that was one of the best shows I have seen in my life! Shakespeare with an rock aesthetic is just endlessly fun! I cannot commend the actors/musicians enough for their endless talent! Please do not read this as actors and musicians separately… not only can the thespians act, but they can sing and dance and play guitar and bass and drums and unelected (and a bit of trombone) AGH! I would also be remiss if I didn’t commend the extraordinary work of their lighting crew, sound crew, and stage hands! Each scene was expertly lit and conveyed emotion and plot effectively. The mixing of music and speech was expertly handled, and the sets are expertly constructed and maintained. The costume designers should also get huge pat on the back as well! Overall, this is a dedicated group of highly talented individuals who seem to have a lot of fun putting on shows and that is my favorite type of performance to attend! HVSF is a TREASURE! If you have not seen them and live in the Hudson Valley, it is always with the trek. Bring bug spray and a rain jacket for if the weather turns and a sweatshirt if you get chilly at night. They have areas where you can stow your bags. Similarly, the Grassy hill in front of the stage is perfect for picnicking beforehand and the Garrison is a very nice restaurant for food and beverages. For concessions, be prepared to spend, but it is worth every penny to support the HVSF. If you are worried about mobility issues getting to and from your car, the festival uses golf carts to make life easy! There is literally no reason not to go! I will be returning at least once more this season to complete my HVSF trifecta!"
