About the Business

Moore House

Moore House is a historic tourist attraction located at 228 Nelson Road in Yorktown, Virginia, United States. The site has a rich history, originally part of a plantation called "Temple Farm" before being purchased by Augustine Moore in the 18th century. During the American Revolution, the Moore House played a significant role as the location where the Articles of Capitulation were negotiated, leading to the surrender of Lord Cornwallis's British army. The house remained in the Moore family until 1797 and has since undergone restoration by the National Park Service. Visitors can explore the colonial-era house and learn about its important role in American history.

"A great location on the battlefield known as the Surrender House, where the paperwork was signed to end hostilities. When you walk around, you get a rush of history knowing the prolific event that took place there. The day I was there, it was not open; but it was still great to walk around the grounds."

"The Moore House is a historic stop on the Yorktown Battlefield motor trail. You can walk up to the house and the Cemetery on the grounds, but you cannot enter the house."

"Shame on you, National Park Service, for letting this historical place where America basically secured its independence fall into disrepair and neglect. This place is as important, if not more so than Appomattox. No entry allowed. Electrical wires hanging down loosely. Mold and mildrew everywhere. This is a disgrace. Perhaps a tiny fraction of the $80B going to the IRS can be diverted to restore this national treasure."

"Another historical site on Yorktown battlefield tour. The house looks charming but requires maintenance. Backyard open space with huge trees show years of growth and history. Front fence overlooking York River water. Worth stopping by."
