Mike's Penn Ave Grille

"I just ate dinner here this evening and came to write a review and read the first one which happened to be much like my experience and coincidentally has a picture of coconut shrimp that isn’t burned. I took my mom, my aunt, and my little niece out to eat after a fun day of shopping. My mom and I have eaten here often and are generally happy with the food and the service. All of the food was great except my coconut shrimp which were obviously overcooked and burned. They were VERY dark. My mom and aunty even commented on it. I decided to get some other dipping sauces and try to eat them anyway but they were mush in the middle and the burned coconut just sort of crumbled into dust in my mouth. They were inedible. I told our server who was very nice about it but sent the “manager” over who had a terrible attitude. Definitely not apologetic in the least. In fact she stood there and argued with me that the coconut shrimp is ALWAYS dark. “ that’s just how coconut shrimp is”. I explained that I love coconut shrimp and that this is not the case. They come out golden when cooked properly. As one can see in the picture on the review directly under mine. But this woman stood there and argued with me until it became quite uncomfortable and actually started to make me angry. This is not how a manager is supposed to handle this type of situation. We are very happy and fun people. We were laughing and having a great time up until this woman approached us with a terrible attitude. I expect a good manager to apologize, remove the food, take it off the bill (I ate 2 out of maybe 10) and ask us to please return again. This woman told me they don’t just take the food off the bill “just because a customer doesn’t like it”. She was insufferable standing over me speaking to me like I was some kind of imbecile. Had that not happened we would have shrugged it off and come back, but after this we will never eat here again. I would love to have taken a picture to post of how burnt my food was so everyone could see what this woman claimed was normal. Terrible management skills."

"We stopped by the Penn Grill for dinner recently. My sister used to live nearby and we went there often. I had a fish sandwich and sorry to say that it was soggy. My friend had a burger and loved it. The Key Lime Macadamia nut pie was excellent, and so was Danielle's service."

"Didn't know weather to seat ourselves or wait when we went into the other door, waited a while for food, but other then that was great!"

"Long time customer. Father in law knows the owner and I'm sure he'd be ashamed. Buckle up for this one! Wife ordered lasagna which came.out ice cold in the middle. Sent it back to have it brought out on the same plate with the same piece of toast (missing a small bite) and the lasagna was chopped up into literal mush. You know when I get lasagna it's a nice large piece not sloppy Joe reheated in a microwave. When we told our waitress it was unacceptable she took it right back and understood BUT .... Moments later some older manager woman came out with the plate of slop in hand and with attitude asked "what is wrong with my food?" We told her we didn't pay for microwaved food that isn't even lasagna anymore. She stated "It's the same flavor". She was so arrogant and nasty my wife literally cried at the table. What a shame someone with this level of customer service works at an establishment that's supposed to provide great customer care. I used to come here so much and I'll never return."

"Mike's is a bar with a resteraunt attached. You have to navigate a maze of uneven floors to get from one to the other. Significant tripping hazard especially for seniors. We had a group of 12, seated in a large alcove. The small room, bare walls, and piped in music made conversation impossible. Our server was pleasant and efficient. 15 min from orders to salad delivery. Another 20 till food started coming. Mike's has a nice menu with a second sheet of specials. My partner and I ordered egg plant parm and chicken dejanova. Salads were premade. Simple lettuce, tomato and 1/2 oz of dressing. Without going into a bunch of culinary mumbo jumbo, we did not care for the food. Period. Hated the food. Won't go back. Parking was in the street. Prices were ok. Portions were large but if you hate the food, who cares if there is a lot of it."
