Bonchon Reston

"Bonchon has not changed. It is Saturday evening, and I'm ready to watch the AppleTV tonight. I have friends and family that are looking for something good to eat with spiciness and even some garlic flavoring. I decided to go to Plaza America to get a bite to eat that was fast and going to be filling for a party of 5, not a large group, but enough to avoid cooking. Bonchon was the suggestion given to me, so often I went to order for the first time. Located conveniently in Reston in Plaza America, I made the trip in the early evening on waked into a mid-sized restaurant. An open setting with a few tables, fountains, and cold drinks. After reviewing the menu,I made my order and told it would be about 20 minutes. Just to give you an idea, I ordered chicken wings with the Korean Spicy (26) pieces and the garlic flavored (16) pieces and order of potstickers (8) pieces. I figured that should hold us over. Well, let me tell you the amount of time to wait was accurate and the friendliness of the attendant was good. My experience here was brief, but sometimes that's good when you're anxious to get back to the game, right? Anyway, upon arrival, the food was still hot and ready to eat. The wings were so spicy, I mean WOW! But good and the garlic flavored wings were mild and a great alternative from the spicy. Honesty, we still had leftovers, but it was no surprise that everyone thought choosing Bonchon was the best choice. I mean, originally, I was thinking pizza; however, the wings from Bonchon were what this snack football party needed. I recommend visiting the Reston or Herndon location for your next order of wings. Hands down, awesome comfort food."

"We ordered garlic potstickers, bimbibop with bulgogi, and bulgogi with rice with two bottled drinks and ate in. I really liked the bimbibop, but the rice was dry. The restaurant is clean but could use more furniture and dinnerware to liven up the mood and make customers comfortable. We decided to dine in, but it's basically an expensive pickup and to-go restaurant without much planning for a dine-in experience. It was hard to enjoy the meal eating out of black containers with cheap plasticforks (no spoons or chopsticks). It was not worth the $45 we paid."

"Food is the least flavorful of any bonchon I have been to, almost no glaze on the chicken. The seasoned fries have almost no seasoning and we're overcooked, dark brown and taste like the fry oil hasn't been changed in a while. They technically have dine in but no dine in service all food is packed to go and they give you paper plates from a grocery store. They need a sign to tell you that before you waste your cash expecting a dine in experience. If Clearly the owner is cutting corners at every turn. There are 3-4 other bonchon in 5 miles so there is ZERO reason to ever eat here. Very disappointed. Edit: Also, no spicy mayo with the fries, you know. The best part about fries at a Korean style restaurant. Probably too expensive for them to just give that away. Got ketchup though. Gee. Thanks."

"I ordered the japchae, and it was legit and delicious! The noodles were thicker than I'd expect, so probably not the gluten-free glass (thinner) noodles you'd normally get in Korea, but it was pleasant and easy to eat nonetheless. Could have had more depth (sweetness was the most pronounced flavor), but the textures were great and the portions even greater. Almost more than I wanted actually, but great for the price! Satisfied my longing for authentic japchae. I ate in the restaurant, but they still gave me a plastic container and bag. I'd have loved to eat with real dishes, but I understand they probably don't want to deal with dishes. Maybe paper dishes without the bag next time? Still a clean and peaceful setting. Decent Korean radio music going in it too."
