"My son has been being seen for his wellness visits by Dr Albert since he was 3 months old. He’s now 10 months old. I missed an appointment in the middle of November. I care for my grandma with end stage COPD and dementia along with my 2 kids. The day of the appointment she had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. I truly had my hands full and it slipped my mind to cancel prior but I was very apologetic and explained the situation. They told me if I missed another appointment without canceling we’d be discharged from the practice. I rescheduled the appointment for a month later, their next available. I had to cancel that appointment because my grandma took a bad fall and was hospitalized again. The canceled appointment was on a Friday and rescheduled for Monday. I made the practice aware when I joined that I don’t have a vehicle. To get a ride from Medicaid you need 3 days notice so I couldn’t get one for my Monday appointment. My ride canceled last minute because of a snow storm so I called before the office opened to notify them. They left me a voicemail saying they needed to hear from me or they would cancel my other child’s appointment for the end of the month. I called and explained everything again, I’ve been apologetic because I do understand it’s been an inconvenience. I guess I just expected some human empathy. I don’t think it would have mattered what I said when I called honestly, they already had their minds made up to discharge us. No policy was ever stated to me that 3 missed appointments could result in discharge. Even so, you would think some leniency would be presented in this situation. Their reply was an attempt to save face but I find it even more disappointing they felt the need to lie, even about the number of appointments attended vs missed."
