Milwaukee-Downer College Buildings
The Milwaukee-Downer College Buildings, located at 2512 East Hartford Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States, have a rich history dating back to the 1850s. Formed in 1895 through the consolidation of Milwaukee College and Downer College, this pioneering women's college was at the forefront of women's education in the Midwest. The institution was led by influential presidents such as Ellen C. Sabin, Lucia R. Briggs, and John B. Johnson, who emphasized a balanced education of liberal arts and practical training. In 1964, the campus was sold to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and many students and faculty transferred to Lawrence University, where they continue to be part of the alumni community.
