David A. Straz Center
The David A. Straz Center, located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, United States, is a prestigious academic institution housing two of Carthage's most important academic buildings. The A. W. Clausen Center for World Business is located on the north end, while the new Science Center, completed in 2015, is situated on the south end. The center features a two-story atrium, faculty offices, state-of-the-art classrooms, and the Wartburg Theatre, the primary performance space for main stage theatre productions and dance shows. Originally constructed in 1962 as the Library-Auditorium-Science Building, the center was extensively renovated in the early 1990s and renamed in honor of the Honorable David A. Straz, Jr., a former Carthage Trustee and Chairman of the Carthage College Board of Trustees. The dedication ceremony in 1995 was attended by Carthage alumni and friends, with remarks from various dignitaries and a portrait unveiling of Mr. Straz. The creation of the Straz Center marked the beginning of a campus transformation, with subsequent additions including the N. E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center, Hedberg Library, and the A. W. Clausen Center for World Business. In 2014-15, a major renovation of the center was completed, adding a new wing and enhancing classroom and laboratory space for collaborative research opportunities.
