Black Knight Golf Course
β OpenBlack Knight Golf Course, located at 2400 South Kanawha Street in Beckley, West Virginia, offers a 9-hole golf course, swimming, dining, and banquet services in a setting of casual elegance. Open to the public, this institution is conveniently situated at the southern end of Beckley between South Kanawha and South Fayette Street. Established in 1928-29, the Black Knight Municipal Park was originally offered by Col. Ernest Chilson, general manager of Raleigh Coal & Coke, as more than 60 acres of company property for a golf course and clubhouse. The club's name, derived from the "Black Knight" trademark of the coal company, reflects its rich history in the coal and related industries. The clubhouse, designed by Chilson, boasts Art Deco features in a three-story white cinder block building, while the nine-hole golf course was expertly crafted by renowned golf architect Fred Findlay. The grand opening on May 31, 1929, was attended by Governor Conley.
