Waynesboro Heritage Foundation
The Waynesboro Heritage Foundation, located at 420 West Main Street in Waynesboro, Virginia, is a museum and tourist attraction dedicated to preserving the history of Waynesboro and the surrounding area. The Waynesboro Heritage Museum showcases the city's history through permanent and rotating exhibit galleries at two locations: the Waynesboro Heritage Museum in downtown Waynesboro and the Plumb House, an early 19th-century historic home. The museum's permanent panels cover various aspects of Waynesboro's history, from its founding in 1797 to present day. The museum also features a newly renovated rotating exhibit space and a permanent exhibit area called "Out of the Archives." The Plumb House is open on Thursdays from April to October, with appointments available by phone. The museum's current rotating exhibits include "Celebrating a Century of Waynesboro’s Rosenwald School and its Community" and "The Lost Town of Basic City and the Struggle that Built a Consolidated Waynesboro." With over 13,000 items in its collection, the Waynesboro Heritage Foundation is dedicated to preserving and sharing the city's rich history. Additionally, the museum recently opened the Blue Ridge Tunnel as a new attraction, showcasing a forgotten engineering marvel. Walter A. Wilson, III, a graduate of James Madison University and George Mason University School of Law, is involved with the foundation.
