H. Laurence Achilles Natural Area at Shelburne Pond is a beautiful park located at 296 Pond Access Road in Shelburne, Vermont. Named after philanthropist H. Laurence Achilles, this natural area is a hidden gem just 10 miles from Burlington. With over 400 acres of swamps, marshes, and rich woods surrounding the pond, it is home to a variety of unique plants and birds. Owned and maintained by the University of Vermont, this natural area is a peaceful sanctuary for conservation, recreation, and research. Over the past 30 years, The Nature Conservancy has protected 1200 acres of land here, with most of it now owned by UVM. Visitors can enjoy a one-mile trail loop, canoeing or kayaking on the pond, or fishing at the state-owned access point.
