"We've been getting our taxes done by Peggy Price at Fowler Tax for a few years, and stuck with her when it changed to Korpal, Lopez, and Associates. After 3 years in a row of owing a small amount, while everyone around me was enjoying a refund, I took the leap and tried out a professional. Peggy is knowledgeable, friendly, and gives straight talk recommendations. Even though we only talk for a short time once a year, she feels like family, and it gives me that small town feel that has me obsessed with Gilmore Girls. I imagine that's the way my mom would give tax advice, if she knew the ins and outs of the tax code. We do married filing jointly, and have had 2 kids and a house join our lives in the few years we've been working with Peggy. She helped us navigate the child tax credit, and also her software allows her to give us an estimate of what our expected refund for the following year (if nothing big changes). Of course everyone's finances are different, but we went from having to pay $100 to receiving 3k-4k refunds each year. I'm considering changing my W4 to get a smaller refund, and she went over the consequences of that choice too. I have never felt rushed, and they were flexible when Covid hit, allowing us to drop off our documents and do our meeting over secure email/phone.
