Ramsey Cascades
Ramsey Cascades is a must-see tourist attraction located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, United States. It is known for being the tallest waterfall in the park, standing at 100 feet tall and surrounded by beautiful rock outcroppings. The trail to the waterfall is a challenging 8-mile roundtrip hike that gains over 2,000 feet in elevation. Along the way, hikers will pass rushing rivers and streams, as well as old-growth cove hardwood forests filled with majestic trees such as tuliptrees, basswoods, silverbells, and yellow birches. It is important to note that attempting to climb to the top of the falls is extremely dangerous and has resulted in fatalities in the past. To access the trail, visitors can drive six miles east of Gatlinburg on Highway 321 and turn at the Greenbrier entrance to the park. From there, follow the signs 4.7 miles to the trailhead. It is recommended to bring plenty of drinking water and wear sturdy hiking shoes with ankle support, as portions of the trail are very rocky. Pets and bicycles are not allowed on the trail, and visitors should be aware that black bears are sometimes active in the area.
