About the Ramsey Cascades
Ramsey Cascades is a must-see tourist attraction located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, United States. It is known for being the tallest waterfall in the park, standing at 100 feet tall and surrounded by beautiful rock outcroppings. The trail to the waterfall is a challenging 8-mile roundtrip hike that gains over 2,000 feet in elevation. Along the way, hikers will pass rushing rivers and streams, as well as old-growth cove hardwood forests filled with majestic trees such as tuliptrees, basswoods, silverbells, and yellow birches. It is important to note that attempting to climb to the top of the falls is extremely dangerous and has resulted in fatalities in the past.
To access the trail, visitors can drive six miles east of Gatlinburg on Highway 321 and turn at the Greenbrier entrance to the park. From there, follow the signs 4.7 miles to the trailhead. It is recommended to bring plenty of drinking water and wear sturdy hiking shoes with ankle support, as portions of the trail are very rocky. Pets and bicycles are not allowed on the trail, and visitors should be aware that black bears are sometimes active in the area. Overall, Ramsey Cascades offers a challenging and rewarding hiking experience for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Reviews of Ramsey Cascades
"About 7-8 mile moderate roundtrip hike. Beautiful spots of a clear creek and forest along the way top off with the best view at the end the waterfall(:"
"Moderate hike but absolutely worth the time ☺️ You need to have a parking ticket( please note it is not possible to buy it on the beginning of this trail!)"
"Great hike one of my favorites very hard last 1 /2 mile..got up and back in three hours..went later in the day on a Sunday..no traffic on the trail! Saw a bear cub. Much better after a good rain if going in the summer"
"I want to give this hike 3-4 stars because I was so miserable during it. But, it was gorgeous. We wanted to do Grotto Falls but it was so packed. Even at 8am. This entrance to the Smokies is close to our campground so we decided to check it out. With no service- we couldn't look up what we were getting into. We decided to just go for it. This hike is brutal lol. I thought I died four times. The scenery and the falls are very pretty though. I'm glad the falls were a bit on the fuller side or else I would have felt cheated."
