Lewis Barbecue Charleston

"The first time we went to Charleston we were told Lewis’ BBQ was highly recommended and loved by the locals. The next time we returned to Charleston, revisiting for dinner was a priority. It’s so good! As an Australian this was the perfect introduction to southern USA bbq. The first time we went we tried a bit of everything. The brisket is amazing. Everyone at the table loved the charred smoky flavour and juiciness of the meats. The Mac and cheese is tasty. The sausages are good. It’s hearty and filling but every bite was so good that it made it hard to stop eating. What I loved just as much as the mains was the banana pudding. It’s why I have two photos of it. The texture of the pudding is so smooth, the flavour delightful and now it’s my favourite dessert. Both times I had seconds and contemplated thirds. When we returned I joked to the bartender that I’d come back just to be reacquainted with the pudding again. It’s pretty much the truth."

"Wow! Not your same old BBQ for us. Loved the corn pudding, was a little nervous to try since it contained jalapeños (I'm not a spicy person), but this was just right.The french fries were so tasty.The BBQ flavor was so different from what we get where we live. Spacious inside dining and a lovely shaded outside dining. Will definitely visit again if we come back to Charleston."

"We really enjoyed Lewis Barbecue! Nine of us are having a cousins reunion in Charleston. We came from Austin, San Antonio and Plano, TX as well as Atlanta. We really enjoyed the food. You must try the corn pudding!"

"By far, some of the best BBQ I've had here in Charleston! We went today for my boyfriends birthday, and it took a minute to find it kind of just popped up. Very small parking lot, so it's hard to find a spot, but just come right when they open, and you'll be fine. Regardless, it's worth waiting! The staff was seriously so gracious, helpful, and very welcoming. We came before there was a long line, which was great. It's a lunchroom style service, which is fine. The menu is big enough for you to see if you're back in line. Once you get up to the butchers, they ask what meat you want and how much, and they also dip the meat back in the juices, which yes! Then you go down the line and tell them your sides. Very easy. Again, everyone was super friendly, and the food was fast! I recommend eating in the bar area there's more room and it's quieter. The food was absolutely perfect! I got pork ribs that fell off the bone and turkey, which that turkey was so tender and juicy. I've never had turkey so perfect before. The Mac and cheese was also a great side, and their homemade pickles are so good! My dessert was banana pudding, and that was fantastic, very smooth and sweet. There are no chunks of banana or vanilla wafers, which is different but still yummy! My boyfriend ordered their special today, which I think was a brisket sandwich with horsey sauce and queso. It was huge! He devoured that. He also ordered corn pudding and coleslaw. The pudding for me was a little too spicy, but it was perfect for him, and he really liked the coleslaw, very different recipe, but it works well. Definitely will be back again! I don't care how long the line is. It's a little pricey but totally worth it for amazing food!"

"The long line of people waiting to get in outside the restaurant was something I've never seen ...the wait to get to the counter and order food was 45minutes to an hour We managed to sit at the bar and order from the bar menú (a smaller/limited list of options vs the full menu) The bartender was friendly and quick to get our drinks and food We got the brisket sandwiches and multiple sides Every single thing was fresh,cooked right and delicious! The beers were cold and refreshing as well!!! They also had a nice selection of drinks I can't wait to try next time.Overall a great experience and we'll be back to try on their full menu next time."
