Built in 1828 by United States Senator Walter Lowrie, the House is the last of its architectural style in Butler and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The House is open to the public for guided tours during business hours or by appointment. The institution also houses the BCHS office and library, open free to the public Wednesdays through Fridays. The Little Red School House, built in 1838, was the first public school in Butler and now serves as a living history museum recreating the one-room school experience for visitors. The School House will undergo construction in 2024 to renovate and improve the building. Group tours can be arranged between May and September annually, with tour fees applicable.
