"I am a moto and mountainbike athlete that had a very bad concussion followed by post-concussion syndrome. Michael Collins ranks as the worst medical professional I have seen. He is not a doctor, but a psychologist. He makes a significant amount of assumptions that simply are not true. During my visit, he said repeatedly "listen to me" and that everything that had been helping me up to that point was "WRONG". I had photo-phobia as my main symptom and would wear yellow lenses to get through the worst (most) days. He snatched them off my face and said that the glasses were the reason why I wasn't better. I was 2 months post injury. It took me a full two years to fully recover. The imPACT test, I simply clicked through randomly as I could not look at the changing refresh rates of the screen, and he indicated that my results were quite good and that I must return to work. I mentioned that I didn't even look at the screen and clicked randomly. On a side note, I have serious concerns for the data this test is generating. There is a serious lack of empathy and consideration for his patients. Also, he saw me for ~4 minutes and 47 seconds in total. As I remember back on our interaction I still get a kick out of him yelling "Listen to me", "Look at me", and "WRONG" to myself and my mom. In conclusion, I have never been treated this way at any hospital and believe whole heatedly that this man is a complete fraud!!!!! It's no wonder Sydney Crosby was never the same after his concussions. I would rank him a 0 star, but that is not an option unfortunately. If anyone from UPMC reads this, feel free to contact me as I would love to give additional feedback from my visit."
"Dr Collins was not helpful at all. I am a college athlete who suffered a severe concussion and unfortunately this man was not kind, patient or caring. He repeatedly told me sternly “Look at me!” while we were talking about my concussion symptoms. He cared more about disciplining me than he did about treating my concussion! He made me so uncomfortable to the point where I felt bullied so I got up and walked out of his office. He discharged me from his practice before I could even retake the Impact test and get back to my baseline. Completely unprofessional!"
"Highly recommend Dr. Collins. After seeing dozens of doctors in Alabama including the a few “concussion” specialist we were unable to find anyone who could help my son fully recover from his concussion. We decided to take him to see Dr Collins and it was by far the best decision we made. Just wish we would have gone earlier. My son got another concussion a few month later and we returned as he is the only one I trusted."
"It's important to know that Dr. Collins is not a medical doctor, M.D. He has a Doctorate in Psychology, a Ph.D. As a psychologist, he might not be able to evaluate all symptoms and you may need to see a medical doctor of some sort. His temperament doesn't seem stable, so you can't be sure what kind of mood he'll be in for the day of your appointment. You'll see a different psychologist in training at each appointment who evaluates you before you see him. Wait time can exceed an hour."
"The best concussion doctor there is! I am so blessed to be able to see Dr. Collins and for him to relay any fears I have. Extremely trustworthy and spends a lot of time with patients to dig deep into their individual situations! Thank you Dr. Collins!"
