Our library boasts a rich history, tracing back to its origins as the Frankford Avenue Branch in 1894. Our current location, opened in 1956 and renovated in 1997, features modern amenities including Internet access, and a beautiful mosaic in the meeting room created by local children in collaboration with Network Arts.

Originally opened on November 20, 1906, with the generous support of philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, our library has a rich history. The Lehigh Avenue Branch, once the largest library in Pennsylvania, has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of its patrons. Saved from relocation in the mid-sixties, it underwent significant renovations in 1967 and 1997, enhancing its facilities and introducing Internet access as part of the "Changing Lives" campaign. The library's original chandeliers were beautifully restored during these refurbishments, preserving its historical charm.
