Reily Township Historical Society
Welcome to the Reily Township Historical Society, a cherished museum located at 6207 Main Street, Oxford, Ohio. We are dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of Reily Township and the surrounding areas. Our museum offers a unique glimpse into the past through a variety of exhibits and events that engage and educate visitors of all ages. Join us on September 3, 2024, at 7 PM for a special presentation by Dick Oertel, a retired P&G chemist and passionate local historian. Dick will present "A Peek Inside Reily Township Museum’s Thomas Stander Collection," offering insights into the fascinating artifacts left behind by the late local historian Tom Stander. Explore intriguing items like an 1889 grocery store ledger, an 1890s Reiley Cornet Band helmet, and a 1939 poster from the Reily Farmers’ Institute, among others.
McGuffey House and Museum
The McGuffey House and Museum, located at 401 East Spring Street in Oxford, Ohio, is a National Historic Landmark and a popular tourist attraction. The museum aims to preserve and exhibit materials related to the life of William Holmes McGuffey, the creator of the McGuffey Eclectic Reader series, as well as the history of Miami University and 19th-century domestic life in southwest Ohio. William Holmes McGuffey, a faculty member at Miami University, compiled the first edition of the McGuffey Eclectic Reader series in this very house in 1836. These readers were widely used in American schools, teaching important lessons in reading, spelling, and civic education.
