"I moved into the Lex 10/22 and was welcomed “home” to a dirty apartment and a broken toilet . Maintenance team was awesome at immediately fixing my situation , but as soon as management took my security deposit they became unresponsive and abrasive. If you live on the second or third floors , you can feel your apartment shake each time your neighbors use the stairs. I often had bugs in my apartment , roaches. It looked like someone tried to break into my apartment when I was gone for a short trip, I let management know , and they did nothing. I moved out in August 2023 and I’m still waiting for the promised security deposit to be refunded. Again- maintenance was wonderful, BUT they aren’t the ones who you'll be in a legally binding contract with - the property is. I would not recommend living here if you can avoid it. Management , please do better for the residents of the community- they deserve to be treated with respect and kindness."
"I’ve never lived anywhere this bad. I can’t believe people like this exist. If you’ve read the reviews, then you know the lack of communication and professionalism displayed by the staff is the main problem here. I decided to write down my experiences in a helpful bullet point format. Buckle in for a wild ride! • I had to rehome my dog in July and updated her PetScreening profile to show she was rehomed. I let the staff know several times. They still haven’t removed the $20 pet fee from my monthly rent. • One of the painters they hired over the summer removed my power meter. None of my neighbors’ were removed. Maybe he had a grudge against me? I don’t know. I went to the front office to let them know (if you have an issue here, you have to go to the front office in person because they refuse to answer their phone/email). Luckily they were able to put the meter back on. But then Duke Energy charged me a $400 “tampering charge”. I went to the office again and explained what happened. Onya, the manager, gave me her business card and instructed me to email her a copy of my power bill. I did and she forwarded it to her regional manager. I didn’t hear anything back for a while and my power bill was coming due, so I tried getting in contact with Onya a few times via phone and email and went back to the office a THIRD time during my lunch break. I was told by the front desk person that Onya would give me a call as soon as she got back. I took that to mean she was at lunch, but it turns out she was on vacation! Onya could’ve said “I’ll be on vacation, but your power bill problem is being resolved and I’ll have an update for you when I get back”. That would’ve been the professional way to handle it. When she got back, she still was not returning my calls and emails. Eventually I had to get a pro bono lawyer involved, who emailed Onya stating that he expected me to be reimbursed for the tampering charge. In under an hour, Onya emailed us both back and said there was now a $400 credit on my account. I’m happy it got resolved, but it’s sad that it took getting a lawyer involved. • Creepy maintenance crew: as another reviewer put it, I don’t care for being stared at like a “five-star meal”. They also come into your apartment without advanced notice. I only knew someone had been in my apartment because my standing mirror was moved. And my toilet seat was up, so he obviously used my toilet. Gross. • Speaking of gross/creepy maintenance men: I put in a non-emergency request to fix the leaky pipe under my kitchen sink. Annoying, but not urgent. On a Saturday night I hear a knock on my door and it’s the creepiest of the men. I didn’t answer. As a woman who lives alone, I don’t need a strange man in my home after dark on a weekend. It would’ve been ok if it was an emergency, but it wasn’t and it would’ve been more professional if he waited until normal business hours on Monday. • The pool was closed until August and then we needed a separate “pool pass” to get in. Shouldn’t our key cards let us in? Now we have to go talk to the rude office staff to get a pass? Not worth it. • As other reviews have said, crime has gotten worse. That’s not necessarily management’s fault, but they need to install security cameras at the least. The trash compactor is also usually overflowing. • When I got my lease renewal letter, I was actually leaning toward renewing instead of leaving, despite everything. I love the apartment itself, I live 5 minutes from work, and moving is expensive. But when I let them know, they of course never responded. They care so little, they don’t even care about keeping tenants! I took it as a sign from the universe that I need to get out of here and I mailed in my notice to vacate. Onya finally got in touch 2 weeks later and said they received my notice, calling me by the wrong name in the process. Cherry on top. • I’ll update my review when I move out in January, as I’m sure the staff won’t make the move-out process easy. If you’re debating whether to move here, I’ll make the decision really easy for you: DON’T."
"We have lived at The Lex for a little over 11 months now. When we first moved in, we were surrounded by neighbors who smoked often. I know our building made complaints and eventually things seemed to get better in our unit. Every once in awhile the smells would resurface, but it was not often. Over the last couple of months, management has seemed to become more spotty with communication. There have also been multiple times we have tried to go into the office far before it was set to close just to find it already being closed. Those that say they do not answer calls are hard to judge as they typically only have one agent working at a time and we constantly see tours going on which pulls that one agent. This does show to me that they likely need more staff, however I am positive even with more staff they will still not answer emails. After over 11 months of emails, I think I may have received one reply. We personally have zero complaints about maintenance. Each work order we put in has been fixed within 24 hours. We have not had any issues with our AC or heat and when needing emergency maintenance they were quick to respond. The dog poop is also another wild card. You do not see much when the pet waste areas are properly maintained (which lately, is not often). Many people may forget or not have their own bags to pick up waste as it is something that is supposed to be easily accessible to residents, however more times than not, each area is overflowing with waste and empty of more bags. When we first lived here there were absolutely ZERO issues with pet waste. Everything was consistently emptied and stocked, no longer the case. Overall, we feel the complex is kept clean (other than pet waste) and we have not had any problems with crime or theft. Every reviewer is going to have a different experience, but this is ours."
"I have to say after reading the reviews for the Lex, I understand the poor customer service I was subject to. I am currently relocating to NC from another state and seeking a transitional home. I scheduled a tour and arrived 5 mins ahead of my scheduled time. The lady who is in the office on Thursday 10/05/23, greeted me and seemed annoyed. She was very curt and did not offer her name. She asked if I had ID and told me to have seat in the lobby area and proceeded to assist the young man that came in after me. Usually, this wouldn't be a problem, however, it was clear that his issue would take some time. She could have told him to wait while she assisted me or provided me an update on an eta so that I would not be waiting. I had to alert her that I was waiting and on a schedule. She didn't not seem to understand that what she did was not good practice... she was very confrontational and rude in her response. I decided if this is the representative for this property...it does not bode well. I was curious about the reviews for this property and wow what a difference between the google reviews vs apartment dot com. There is never an excuse for poor customer service. That said, it appears that her rudeness was a blessing (based on the most recent reviews)."
"High crime area, terrible management! Avoid at all costs, especially if you have a family or valuable belongings! Package theft is common here, I personally had lost packages on the same day it was delivered, all ripped open in the mail area. Drug usage and smoking is out of control. This is supposed to be a non-smoking apartment complex but the neighbors smoke weed which stinks up my apartment and irritates my throat. Management refused to do anything about it or even talk to the smokers despite me asking management to help me for the past year. If I want to change my apartment to have non-smoking neighbors (which isn't guaranteed) then there is a massive fee almost as big as the rent. Management overall is non-responsive. On a good day it may take them a week to respond for any issue over phone. It takes calling them 5 or 6 times for someone to even pick up the phone. And forget email, they never respond to anything sent. And if you happen enjoy seeing dog droppings on the sidewalk then look no further than the Lex because here we got plenty. In summary, this place is terribly managed, crime is out of control and management makes no effort to enforce the no-smoking policy in an apartment complex with paper thin walls."
