Lake Michie Boathouse

The institution is part of the Lake Michie Dam and Pump Station, which was constructed in 1925. Currently, the Lake Michie and Little River Raw Water Pump Station Improvements project is underway, with a total cost of $70 million. This project will include new pumps, piping, valves, electrical gear, wiring, HVAC, lighting, instrumentation, and architectural improvements. The institution offers various outdoor recreational opportunities, including camping at the Spruce Pine Lodge and Holly Grove campsites within the Lake Michie Recreation Area. The area features 7 primitive campsites, with group campsites equipped with grills, picnic tables, and ample space for tents. Additionally, visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, and trail hiking in the area. Campsites must be reserved by calling 919-560-4355, ext. 27202, and permits must be purchased by Tuesday at 5 p.m. for the remainder of the work week and weekend. To reach the campgrounds, take Roxboro Road North (Rte 501) for approximately 12 miles, then turn right onto Bahama Road. After 2.5 miles, take a left at the “Spruce Pine Lodge” sign for the Spruce Pine Lodge campsites or take a right at Archery Range Road for the Holly Grove campsite.
