MAHEC Family Health Center at Enka/Candler

"Dr. Alexander and Dr. Smith are really nice people, they are good with my daughter and always try to help whenever there is my problem. My only complaint is if my kid is ever sick, they don't get to see their regular doctor. There are never appointments available for things that pop up. Mahec always refers us to the acute care clinic for anything that isn't a well child checkup booked weeks in advance. At the acute care clinic it's a mixed bag, you never know who you are going to get. I don't like that part of being involved with mahec. So my complaint is more with the system of mahec than the Dr's. themselves who have been great. Edited to say I'm so frustrated for the last 6 months or so I can NEVER get the front desk people to answer the phone!!!! What is going on? I call over and over again and sometimes get put on hold forever and then I'll hang up and call back and someone will pick up! It doesn't make any sense."

"Dr. Kauffman at MAHEC is absolutely amazing. She listens to all my concerns and genuinely cares. We make health decisions together, I never feel pressured or dismissed. I trust her guidance and her calm spirit makes me feel at ease. The office itself is always clean, calm, and punctual with all the support staff being super nice and helpful. "I high recommend this office, the staff, nurses and doctors alike. I grew up in the area going to some decent medical professionals, while others left no concern of caring for one’s health and well-being. Since moving away and returning, I was left to seeking out new doctors. When seeking out new doctors through other medical providers in the area, it was a waiting list of 6-8 months just to establish a new patient. The excuse was “we are backed up due to the pandemic and are understaffed.” Things have definitely changed the last 2 decades! Being a new office open for quite a few months at the time, MAHEC Enka/Candler was able to get me in within the same week to establish new patient. Since moving back to the area, I have been exceptionally pleased with the care from not only my health, but my child’s health as well, through this office. From setting to canceling to rescheduling appointments, it has been easy to call in. The notifications via email and text message have been helpful to remember when appointments are upcoming and the day of. Using the FollowMyHealth app on my phone to view my health stats and lab test results immediately, also has been super easy to navigate. Even the referrals to other MAHEC specialist related offices have been great! If I am unable to get in to see my specific doctor, other doctors on staff have been just as excellent with seeing me and finding solutions for my medical concerns. They each have taken the time to explain solutions, give suggestions to improve health and answer my questions. I am truly lucky to have found something close to where I live (vs going into town or South Asheville) and are truly dedicated to helping find solutions to health concerns. I sincerely hope others are able to have the same experience I have since becoming a patient here! Best wishes!"

"I wish I could leave a 5 because up till my last visit I would have! I love the new office and all of the staff, Shelby at the front desk is the sweetest and best person I have ever seen at any office!! My baby threw a hard zebra toy through her window and it made the loudest crash on the desk, scared us all lol, and she was so great about it and helpful! I wish I was half as put together, she is truly beautiful! But I met a new dr for the first time my last visit and totally felt my confidentiality was violated."

"The doctor is great! BUT good luck getting a nurse on a phone when you sick or hurt and need to be seen. They don’t answer the phone when you need them. I called 4 times yesterday and only once did I speak to someone at the front desk because the nurse line had hung up on me twice already only to be put on hold and then hung up again by their automated system. I’m out."
