The institution's mission is to maintain and preserve the Proctor Building, the oldest building in Robeson County, along with its surrounding gardens. By preserving and restoring these historical structures, Historic Robeson, Inc. aims to promote the historical process and cultural appreciation of our society. Robeson County, named after Col. Thomas Robeson of Tar Heel, a hero of the Revolutionary War, is a county in the southern part of North Carolina with a population of 116,530 as of the 2020 census. The county seat is Lumberton, where the institution is based.
