Located in Vestal, New York, the Binghamton University Nature Preserve is a 190-acre park and tourist attraction that boasts a 20-acre wetland. This diverse ecosystem is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, beaver, fox, mink, muskrat, porcupines, amphibians, reptiles, and over 200 bird species. The preserve offers maintained hiking trails, a wooden footbridge, and research opportunities in topics such as rock species, soil creep, snow thickness, and storm drainage. The university's close proximity to such a rich natural environment makes it a valuable resource for education and research in ecology, arts, literature, and outdoor recreation. The Friends of the Nature Preserve group, made up of faculty, staff, students, and community members, work to preserve the natural areas on campus and in Broome County.
