Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is a stunning natural oasis located at 175-10 Cross Bay Boulevard in New York, New York, United States. Covering over 12,600 acres of diverse habitats including water, saltmarshes, ponds, fields, and woods, this park is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Established in the 1950s by NYC Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Robert Moses, the Wildlife Refuge is now part of the National Park Service's Gateway National Recreation Area. Visitors can explore the rich flora, fauna, and history of Jamaica Bay at the Visitor Center, which is open Friday-Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. The center also offers restrooms and information about the Refuge. Hiking trails around the West Pond and short walking trails on the east pond provide opportunities to observe birds from designated bird blinds. Bike racks are available for visitors, but bikes are not allowed on the trails.
Frank Melville Memorial Foundation
The Frank Melville Memorial Foundation is located at 1 Old Field Road in Setauket- East Setauket, New York, United States. This park is a popular tourist attraction that offers visitors a unique blend of history and nature. Established in 1937 as a memorial to Frank Melville Jr., the park features five historic structures including a Greek revival post office, a grist mill, a miller's cottage, a barn, and a meeting house known as the Bates House. These buildings are set among a collection of 17th, 18th, and 19th century homes near the Setauket Village Green. Covering 26 acres, the park boasts ponds, native plants, and more than 200 varieties of trees. Visitors can stroll along winding paths that lead to Conscience Bay and the Caroline Church. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and maintained by the Frank Melville Foundation for public use. Please note that fishing is not allowed in the park.
Belvedere Castle
