As the son of Greek immigrants, he grew up in the Hamptons, later pursuing his undergraduate studies at Rutgers University. With a strong foundation in pre-med and athletics, he continued his medical education at NYU Langone Hospital, completing a one-year rotating internship followed by a four-year Ob/Gyn residency. Dr. Bakas has dedicated over two decades to providing exceptional prenatal care and has delivered thousands of babies. He founded a prenatal care center in Westchester, NY, where he gained a reputation for his patient-centered approach. His expertise extends to advanced laparoscopic procedures and a wide range of gynecological surgeries. Throughout his career, Dr. Bakas has been actively involved in utilization review and safety committees, and was a core member of the Obstetrical Safety Initiative at his hospital.

As we embark on our thirty-fourth season, join us in celebrating a landmark year for railroading on Long Island. This year, we honor the 190th anniversary of the Long Island Rail Road, the 60th anniversary of the LIRR Allan Herschel G-16 Park Train, and the 180th anniversary of the first train to Greenport. Our museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich history of Long Island's railroads. With facilities in both Riverhead and Greenport, we invite you to explore our collection of historic rail cars, locomotives, and interactive exhibits. Experience a ride on our miniature LIRR park train from the 1964 New York World’s Fair, or step inside a 1960s LIRR caboose. Our historic Lionel Layout, with its 83 accessories, is a must-see for model train enthusiasts.
