The Friends of Van Ness House, a Federal 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is dedicated to saving and restoring this important piece of local history. The house was built by one of the first Dutch families to settle in Western Essex County and has been recognized as one of the 10 most endangered historic places in New Jersey. The organization recently held a successful fundraiser to help start significant exterior repairs and secure funding for the eventual purchase of the property from Fairfield Township.
