Established in 1876 by a dedicated group of local residents, Brookside Cemetery stands as one of the most beautiful and meticulously maintained cemeteries in Bergen County. Recognized for its tranquil beauty by Austin N. Volk, former Mayor of Englewood, our cemetery offers a peaceful environment for reflection and remembrance. Before the Civil War, Englewood lacked a public burial ground, with burials typically taking place in family plots and churchyards. Brookside Cemetery was founded to provide a communal space for eternal rest, and it has since become a cherished part of the community. A testament to its historic significance, the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Englewood generously donated their charming stone chapel to the cemetery shortly after its establishment.
